What is Plastering/Gib Stopping?
Gib stopping is a process of smoothing and filing the joints between plasterboard (GIB board) sheets. It is used to show a seamless finishing on the surface before painting or applying other finishes. A GIB board is branded plasterboard or drywall widely used in New Zealand for creating internal walls and ceilings in residential and commercial construction. They are usually made up of gypsum core in between two layers of heavy-duty paper or fiberglass matting. Common characteristics of these boards are that they are strong, lightweight and versatile and provide a smooth paintable surface making them ideal for variety of construction applications. They are also soundproof and fireproof, making them perfect for commercial constructions.
